To say UFC Fight Night 138 was a good night for Anthony Smith would be a bit of an understatement.

Smith submitted Volkan Oezdemir in the main event, positioning himself as a title contender in 2019. The UFC rewarded Smith with two bonuses, as he pocketed an extra $100,000 by sharing “Fight of the Night” with Oezdemir and earning a “Performance of the Night” award.

After knocking out former champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Rashad Evans earlier this year, Smith showed his submission skills by forcing Oezdemir – who challenged Daniel Cormier for the title recently – to tap to a rear-naked choke.

Michael Johnson bested Artem Lobov in the co-main event, with Misha Cirkunov picking up a submission win as well.
