Branden “Iron” Chevrefils, born (October 24, 1992) in Quennel, British Columbia and grew up in Fresno, California and Kenora, Ontario – Canada.
Branden Chevrefils or “Chevy” to his friends, got his start in MMA after competing in a variety of sports in grade school and high school. “I wrestled from fourth grade to eighth grade, then I played baseball, hockey, football and ran track. I did everything I could to stay involved in sports all year long. I was better at sports than school,” says Chevrefils. Branden started training in MMA at age sixteen. “I had my first fight when I was seventeen, it would have been my junior year,” says Chevrefils. Branden trains in Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai three times a day, five days a week and once on Saturday and Sunday. “I really try to have more of an unorthodox style with my stand up. I am real confident in my wrestling so I like to keep people guessing when it come to my stand up game,” says Chevrefils. Branden considers his coach Joe Wilkes at CSC to be more than his mentor. “He’s just got a way about him that inspires me and calms me down when I need it. He is more than a coach or a mentor. He is a great friend, like family,” says Chevrefils. Branden currently holds the Gladiator Fighting Association Welterweight Title.
Branden considers his head-kick knockout at 51 seconds in the first-round of VFC Fight Night in Fort Riley, Kansas to be his most impressive victory. “The crazy part about that fight was that it was the first time I ever threw a head kick, it was a confidence builder,” says Chevrefils. When asked, how would you rank yourself nationwide? Chevrefils replies, “I don’t really know how I would rank myself. I just know that I will fight anyone at anytime. If they are a good fighter and they are going to give me a good fight, I will fight them. I want to fight tough guys. I want to be the best and to be the best you have to beat the best.” Branden regards Johny Hendricks to be the best fighter at his weight. “He has the belt, he is the best,” says Chevrefils. Branden states that he wants to have four or five more strong performances against tough fighters to put himself on the map nationally.
Branden Chevrefils eats, sleeps, lives and dreams MMA. He has no other focus. He works and trains seven days a week. “I really just kind of live at the gym. I don’t really do anything else,” says Chevrefils. When asked how he feels about being part of the MMA Futures Grey Hat program, Chevrefils states, “I am very honored to be a part of it because I’ve seen the guys that are part of the Grey Hat Program and everybody is dedicated, everybody is serious and everybody is legit. I see guys that are willing to put in the work and I want to be a part of that.” What most people don’t know about Brandon Chevrefils is that he plays guitar, harmonica and is a tremendous shower vocalist.
Branden’s family is very supportive of his choice to compete in MMA. “My mom is a mom so she waits for me to call with the results of my fights. My dad loves it, and expects me to will all of my fights. But my girlfriend closes her eyes through most of the fight and gets mad at me if I get hit in the face so, I try to end all of my fights early,” Chevrefils jokes. Chevrefils admits that MMA is his passion and states, “I don’t know what I would do if I could not compete. MMA is what I have been looking for my whole life. It keeps me happy, it keeps me sane, I don’t know where I would be without the sport right now.” When asked to describe his life right now, in one word Chevrefils says, “Amazing.” And this young man is an amazing fighter, an amazing athlete and most importantly an amazing person. We are very proud to have Branden represent the MMA Futures Brand and we are absolutely convinced that this young man will make it to the next level very soon!
