Over coming months we will be putting out a short series, MMA 101, introducing you to the world of Mixed Martial Arts or MMA. MMA is a very complex game made up of many different Martial arts to create the well rounded game of MMA.
MMA was brought to the forefront almost 25 years ago to prove who’s style of fighting was better. Over the years the sports has evolved to a much more rounded game, with athletes training in many aspects of different martial arts. Some martial arts are very superior to other while some lack some key points to be successful in the cage.
Many different Martial Arts have been brought into the cage by many different athletes. It may be the grappling styles of the Gracies, or the world class Judo of athletes like Ronda Rousey or high caliber wrestlers like Ben Askren. But over the years the sport has evolved and most fighters aside from the Damian Maya’s of the world can’t survive in the cage.
We see the question raised a lot. What should I do? How do I get into MMA? Well that questions is easier said than answered. There are so many path to get into MMA, you first have to think about, what is your background? and what do you want to do? answering these couple questions can help you decide what route to take when jumping into the sport. Your going to want to focus on a discipline or two when you 1st get started, and we want to help you decide which disciplines might be best for you.
Through the MMA 101 series we will separate the individual sports back out of the sports and look at them individually. From Muay Thai to Jiu Jitsu, we will talk about what each sport is. What to expect from them and what sets them apart from the rest of the arts.
